Neil Ellis Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 88 Points
Red wines from South Africa, particularly those made with Bordeaux grape varieties, often display an herbal edge. That quality can prove distracting, but when balanced by sufficient fruit flavours (and ripe flavour at that), it can be compelling. So it is with this Cabernet from Neil Ellis. The wine shows plenty of rich cassis flavour, but cuts that opulence with a streak of minty herbaceousness.
