The Wine Advocate Issue 140
By Robert Parker
Neil Ellis Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 - 88+ points
'The dark ruby-colored 1999 Cabernet bursts from the glass with loads of red and black fruit scents. On the palate this medium-bodied wine is silk-textured, focussed, elegant and most importantly delicious. Blackberries, cassis, red currants and fresh herbs can be discerned in itis well-fasioned personality as well as in its extensive finish. Anticipated maturity now-2010.
Neil Ellis Jonkershoek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 - 93 points
'The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Jonkershoek Valley is a show stopper. Produced from 20 year old vines, this wine has superb aromatic intensity revealing loads of spiced red and black fruits. It is medium to full bodied, dense, concentrated and exquisitely balanced. Gorgeous layers of blackberry, cassis, blueberries, and black cherries are interspersed with chocolate spices, and hints of road tar in this elegant offering's juicy flavourful personality. This outstanding wine should be at its peak of maturity between 2004 and 2016. Bravo!'
