Origin: Coastal region. A multi-vineyard blend from the Groenekloof ward and the Jonkershoek Valley, Stellenbosch.
Variety: 100% Shiraz
Soil type: Decomposed granite.
Harvest date: 13th February - 20th February 2001
Yield: 6 tons/ha or 40 hl/ha
Harvest statistics: Grapes harvested between 24.0şB and 25.2şB
TA 7.2 to 8.0 g/litre
pH 3.36 to 3.4
Vinification: Fermentation initiated in stainless steel tanks and underwent a series of pump overs until day. Further maceration allowed before drawing off and light pressing.
Maturation: This wine spent 15 months in French oak of which 25% was new.

Tasting note: Red / purple colour. Very young wine needing time to meld. Pure blackberry fruit with underlying white pepper and liquorice aromas and hints of violets. Elegant but concentrated palate with ripe fruit, underlying cedar spice and finely balanced tannin characters.
